Three reliable ways to get the right touchpad driver
Pick the method that fits your situation. Windows Update is the simplest place to start; Device Manager and your manufacturer's support page give you more control when a specific fix is needed.
Windows Update (recommended first step)
Open Settings by pressing Win + I.
Select Windows Update in the sidebar, then choose Advanced options.
Open Optional updates and expand Driver updates. If a touchpad or Synaptics entry is listed, check the box next to it.
Select Download & apply, then restart your laptop if prompted so the update finishes loading.
Device Manager
Use this when you need to refresh the driver without waiting for an optional update to appear.
Right-click the Start button and choose Device Manager.
Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
Right-click the entry labeled Synaptics or HID-compliant touch pad and select Update driver.
Choose Search automatically for drivers and follow the on-screen results.
Your manufacturer's support page
The most reliable source for a package matched exactly to your model.
Find your exact model name or service tag — usually on a label on the bottom of the laptop, or under Settings > System > About.
Go to your laptop manufacturer's official support or downloads section and search using that model name or service tag.
Filter results by category — usually labeled Touchpad, Mouse and Touchpad, or Input Device.
Confirm the package lists both your exact model and your current Windows version before applying it.
Before you proceed: confirm the exact model and Windows version match the package, and create a restore point (Settings > System > About > System protection) so you can revert easily if something looks wrong afterward.
